Eidos Bin Champ Man Online

But Why?

Despite its popularity, MMO Championship Manager Online has been ditched by Eidos. News of the football strategy title's demise comes just 20 days short of its fifth birthday and thousands of fans have been left disappointed, with no reasoning as to the decision being offered. The title will officially cease on April 30th but it is thought that the developer's takeover by Square Enix has contributed to the move.

One player of the game displayed their displeasure at the news by saying, "The forums at CMO are rife with discontent. We've been left high and dry without any real explanation. With several thousand players worldwide this decision just doesn't seem to make any sense." Championship Manager Online was co-developed by Beautiful Game Studios and Jadestone, the latter of which placed the blame firmly at the feet of Eidos.

Jadestone made the following statement, "We - at Jadestone - cannot talk about the decision to close the game, due to contractual obligations. We will not answer or comment any such questions." They continued, "The game, the brand, the internet domain and the subscriptions are all owned by Eidos and the decision to cease the service is entirely theirs to make. The decision was made unilaterally by them, and we are not at liberty to comment on any reasoning."

They ended the statement by adding, "Finally, we only have one more thing to say: Thank you, and we're sorry." The company also added that three month subscriptions are no longer available and that one month subscriptions will stop working on March 30th. Those who signed up for the premium accounts will have their service cut on April 30th. Sigh. Football Manager Live anyone?
