One Last Hoorah Planned
Bungie, creators of the legendary Halo 2 have released a statement displaying their sadness at the the games online feature being made defunct. Last week Microsoft announced that the original Xbox Live servers would close, meaning any original titles' online features would cease to function. This was met with a great deal of upset by fans of classic games such as Halo 2, made famous for its online multiplayer function.
The developers began their statement with, "Halo 2 fans take note - you have ten weeks left to play multiplayer games over Xbox LIVE before the service will be discontinued." The service will come to an end on April 15th and Bungie revealed their feelings at the move, "We're all saddened at the realisation that an era is coming to an end but looking back, we're incredibly fortunate to have had such a great run and such strong support from our fans ."
Gracefully they added, "Halo 2 has been at or near the top of the Xbox Live charts for original games since it launched over five years ago. We're extremely thankful to everyone who has played, enjoyed and supported Halo 2 over Xbox Live. We've had some great fun together, including far too many humpday losses to even recount."
Finally the company called for all fans to come together and give Halo 2's online mode a final salute by saying, "That said, mark your calendars now - on April 14th let's all rally to go online for one last hoorah. One final farewell and one final opportunity for all of you to kick our asses at Halo 2." A sad ending to an epic feature. On the plus side there's still 10 weeks for you get the most out of the mode while you can.
Editor's Comment: Do you really think this will be the end of Halo 2? Really? Call me crazy, but I think Bungie may have a little something extra up their sleeve on this one. If God of War Collection proved one thing, it's that previous generation titles can easily and effectively be remastered into Hi-Def for release on current machines, and somehow I get the sneaking suspicion Halo will be no different. Could The Halo Collection be unveiled/released for 360 before the end of 2010? I wouldn't bet against it. - Rich T
