Far from Farmville
3G Studios are to release the first ever 'Social Shooter' and it comes in the form of Brave Arms which will make its debut on the networking site Facebook. The developers previously created SWAT: Target Liberty for the PSP and this title will allow users to create their own avatar and challenge their friends in a 3D shoot-em-up environment. The move just shows the boundaries that social networking sites are breaking in relation to gaming with a number of titles stemming from such a source.
James Costa, the chief of 3G Studios said, "Our new title, Brave Arms, will bring First-Person Shooter games to the masses. It's about fast-paced action and either competing against or forming teams with your friends. We want people to feel empowered and to share in a real video game experience."
This is further proof (as if we needed it) of the impact these types of sites are having on gaming. Already they have acted as a channel to bridge into the casual market with millions of people participating in titles made available through them. Now it seems a move towards attracting more dedicated gamers is on the cards and this is surely the start of something bigger. That is, of course if you can be bothered to wade your way through the pointless group invitations and gift sharing. If one more person pokes me... But that's a rant for a different day!
